    • A page from a book discussing the adaptations of a different culture's mythology for the adopter's own purpose, mostly focused on horror story elements
Through the first article the discussion of how new languages and war caused the destruction of man relates to how in the war between Native American tribes and America the dissociation between the different tribes is what ended up bringing their demise due to their inability to band together to defeat a larger force. The second article discusses how the spiritualistic aspect of Native American mythology and culture brings a lot of the different ideas to modern horror stories, with good and evil spirits being the main contribution to modern horror stories.

1. Savage(n.): (chiefly in historical or literary contexts) a member of a people regarded as primitive and uncivilized. Plural: Savages
Savagery(n.): 1. The quality of Being fierce or cruel 2. (chiefly in historical or literary contexts) the condition of being primitive or uncivilized

2. We are reading a history textbook from 1887 and discussing how they describe the Native Americans and how it would've swayed our views on them had we used these textbooks and learned history in that time period.

3. If I was an American student during that time period using that textbook, it would cause me to have a negative and derogatory attitude towards Native Americans. It often refers to the Native Americans as savages and often brings up how they were cruel and animalistic in the ways they communicated and acted, especially through their hunting habits.

Letter Response

1. It's about a man who moved out west to scope out what was available for land to purchase and talks about the different styles of homes and trusts and shares this info with his wife back east
2. The broken English and lack of grammar, however due to the cost of paper this began to make more sense after reading it.
3. It was the only way for them to communicate back with their families in the East. and especially due to the cost of paper it clearly meant a lot to them due to the fact of how often they seemed to write letters.
